On 24th February, 1915, the 2nd Lincolnshire battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division left their billets in Laventie and moved into trenches at nearby Tilleloy where they remained until relieved on 27th February, when they moved back to billets in La Gorgue. On 2nd March the battalion provided a large working party of 250 men to dig a support trench at Neuve Chapelle during which one man was killed and five were wounded. George Hooper died from wounds on 3rd March but the exact date on which he was wounded is not known.
